
Leaders, get to grips with industrial design and rise above your competitors!
One of the editors of this article recently decided to change the blade on a gardening tool rather than replace the whole thing. The manufacturer offers a life warranty, and the spare part is available in the catalogue… perfect! Yet it turned out that after two months, a visit by car to a shop, a phone call, four website visits and unsuccessful attempts at customer service departments of two major retailers, he could not get a hold on the spare part!
We are questioning a system which keeps on expecting from us to behave as consumers, whereas we are citizens increasingly aware of the earth’s limits, and eager to change our habits.
We are talking to industry leaders who are feeling this shift of values under the backdrop of climate change, and who in turn want to rise to the challenge of offering new products that are attractive, sustainable and affordable.
